Max DiNatale

I recently had the pleasure of working with Max Dinatale, a talented editorial model with Tout Model Management. One of the most exciting things about working with editorial models is that they are creatively enthusiastic and just as driven as you are to work hard to get a desired image. Before we began, I had the initial idea of creating a outdoor, rustic look that would allow us to transition into a darker, moody concept oriented toward high fashion. Conceptually, I wanted to retain a mood of mystery that would gradually increase in intensity as the sun dropped and the natural shadows emerged from the decrease in ambient light available. We used several random locations in the downtown area of Greenville, S.C., moving around and experimenting while occasionally using artificial light to fill in as needed. Here are a few of the resulting images.

In the mix of it all, I find that I cannot contain my curiosity to know the people I work with and often become friends with all of them. I had a chance to ask Max some random questions about himself to be shared on this blog and here is what he said…

Q: When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Doctor ….but now if given the chance I can’t imagine wanting to do that!

Q: What inspired you to become a fashion/editorial model?
A: It started out as a “hey this might be fun” thing to do with some friends. We went to a few different cool locations, brought some props, and then looking at the pictures afterwards, I got hooked. I like fashion modeling because it has a more serious and sometimes darker tone.

Q: Best compliment you ever received?
A: Random aspiring models telling me they like my work and asking for advice so they can “get as good as me” makes me feel pretty proud of myself sometimes.

Q:What is your greatest strength or weakness?
A: My greatest strength in terms of modeling would be knowing what I’m good at and being confident in that. In life, I feel like I’m very considerate of other people’s feelings and helpful toward those in need.

Q: Who are some people you’d like to meet one day?
A: I’m beginning to check off many of my biggest celeb crushes from my list (Emma Watson, Lana Del Ray), but I would still love to meet someone like Zooey Deschanel, Scarlett Johanssion, Natalie Portman, Christina Ricci, or Kat Dennings. It would also be cool to meet some of my favorite film directors like Sofia Coppola, Hayao, Miyazaki, Spike Jonze, or Michel Gondry. If I could bring Alfred Hitchcock back from the dead, he could join us as well.

Q: Which of the four seasons do you love the most and why?
A: Right now I love the summer most. If you had asked me during my childhood, I would have said winter. But now that I understand the annoyances that come with it (getting stuck in the ice, becoming sick, etc.), I would much rather take a sunny day at the beach.

Q: What are some of your major goals in life?
A: I definitely just want to enjoy whatever it is I’m doing. It’s less about a certain job description or monetary goal; I’d rather just be able to enjoy each day. Right now I’m having fun showing off my creative side through modeling, and I’m also really liking some new volunteer work that has come my way as well.
